Ledet Terminology and Glossary
Ledet Training values clear and specific written communications. In order to better achieve this objective, the following is a list of standard terminology and acronyms used at Ledet Training.
- Booking
At Ledet Training, events are not considered committed to an instructor until such time as the instructor status is booked and solid. This is typically done via a Booking email. Until an event is "booked" communications regarding that event are considered preliminary discussions and instructors are not expected to reserve dates for an event until it is "booked". Once an event has been booked however, the independent contract instructor is expected to deliver that event and should they not be able to deliver, it is expected they will be responsible for finding a replacement. - Event
In order to avoid confusion, Ledet Training refers to training delivery engagements as "events" as opposed to "class". At Ledet Training, we often use the term "class" refers to a non-date specific offering in our "course catalog" at catalog.ledet.com. A "class" at Ledet Training does not have a date or location associated with it. An "event" is a specific instance of a "class" that has a date and a location associated with it. We try to avoid using the term "class" when referring to "events" if possible, so as to avoid confusion both internally and externally.
For example, "Photoshop 101" is a class. "Photoshop 101 on 12/17/2025 in Atlanta" is an event. - Preassigned
In some cases, events may be preassigned to an instructor prior to any actual registrations being received for the event. Such preassignment is solely intended to improve communications and allow instructors better visibility into potential future engagements. It is recommended by Ledet Training that any independent contract instructor who has been preassigned to an event that receives a firm, paying engagement from a third party independent of Ledet Training that the instructor accept that firm paying engagement. Ledet Training only asks that the independent contract instructor notify Ledet Training of that fact as soon as reasonably possible so that other arrangements can be made, should the event be held. - Prebooking
At Ledet Training, a prebooking process is often used when inquiring for instructor availability for a potential teaching event. A prebooking is not a firm commitment to teach and instructors are not expected to reserve dates based solely on a prebooking email. If an assignment is prebooked however, and an instructor's schedule changes so that they will not be able to teach an event they have been prebooked for, they are expected to notify Ledet Training of that fact as soon as reasonably possible so that other arrangements can be made. - VILT
Virtual Instructor Led Training. VILT refers to classes taught in an online virtual classroom.
